What is snus?

Snus is a smokefree tobacco product that is very big in Sweden. Snus is manufactured from tobacco and includes for instance nicotine and salts. There is both wet and dry snus. The wet snus is more common in Sweden today. Snus is sold in both loose powder and in small pouches that you put under your lip. Since the 1960s, when it was reported in Sweden that smoking was dangerous to your health, sales of snus have only gone up. in the 1970s came the first portion-packed snus which meant that even more people began to snus.

Snus history

It is said that Columbus discovered tobacco even before he discovered America. It was when he arrived at a Caribbean island, now Haiti, he was amazed that people chewed and smoked on special leaves. It took since some time before the Europeans understood this and it was in Portugal that snus was introduced for the first time. It became very popular and spread later to Sweden. In Sweden advanced to the dry powder into a fuktikt aromatic snuff. in early 1900s was estimated snuff consumption in Sweden to about 1 kg per capita.

Different kinds of portion snus

The Original Portion snus is the first varierty that was made. Its dark an moist pouches are easily hidden under your lip and almost immediately gives you a identifiable. aroma and season

If you double the size of the Original Portion you get the Original Maxi. It's popular among those who are used to loose snus and want something a little more easier.

Original Mini is just like it sounds a snus packed in mini pouches that are well hidden under your lip. This was first made in 1989 because of a request from customers. Original Mini contain just a little bit less nicotine than the Original Portion.

In year 2003 a new set of portion snus was introduced to the market. A new technique resulted in a fresh white pouch that could keep the flavour longer. This snus portion is called White Portion.

You also have White Mini that is smaller pouches with only half of the nicotine compared to White Portion. Its flavour is very fresh and gentle.

How to use snus

The best thing about snus is that you don't have to put up with this bad smelling smoke like when using cigarettes. While smoking all of you get soaked in this terrible smell that is hard to get rid of. Thar is not nice for either you or others. When using snus you also don't have to spit like when using som other tobacco products.

When snusing, what you do is place the pouch under your lip. Depending on the typ of product one portion snus could last all between 15 minutes for up to one hour.
